Goal or objective? The difference examiners test

"I want a comfortable retirement" is an objective. "₹2 crore by age 60, 25 years from now" is a goal, because it has an amount and a date.

Worked example: Priya says she wants a comfortable retirement. That is an objective. When she says "I need ₹2 crore by the time I turn 60, which is 25 years from now", it becomes a financial goal she can plan for.

Exam trap: A statement without an amount and a date is an objective, not a goal. Retirement and education are "important but not urgent". They turn into emergencies only if they are ignored until the last few years.
